What you need

The easy way

  1. Preheat the broiler to high and line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. Steam or boil the broccoli florets for 2-3 minutes until bright green but still crisp; drain well and pat dry.
  3. Toss the drained broccoli with olive oil, garlic powder, salt, and red pepper flakes.
  4. Place bagel halves cut-side up on the baking sheet, top each with broccoli florets, and sprinkle generously with cheddar cheese.
  5. Broil for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned; watch closely to prevent burning.
  6. Serve warm; leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in a toaster oven.

Use your senses. Times are guardrails. Look for the color, texture, and doneness cues in the steps, and refrigerate perishable leftovers promptly.
